2012 in review

Hopefully, better days are coming.

WordPress has ended my year with a thud.  No. I mustn’t blame them.

On December 9 I had 187 views with only 50 plus likes. I got 187 views because of all the pingbacks I listed, I’m guessing. I didn’t do the pingbacks to get more action, and apparently, I didn’t. I did it because I thought it was a nice thing to do.  Well, no  more Mr. Nice Guy  – or Girl in this case.  I need to rethink my blog or get some pointers or quit my day job – so to speak.  I thought I’d share anyway. What the heck.  Ideas, pointers, a slap up side the head. All are welcome.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 13,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 3 Film Festivals

  1. i worked outside most of the day then went to the beach with friends for a cold cervesa or two! i’m just going through the inbox, and other bloggers have the same type of post; hmmmm, i suspect there’s one of those stats reviews waiting for me as well? i never cared for tests that compared me to the rest of the class! do i really want to look at the scores, or should i play right-brained artist and keep smiling?!!!!!

    here’s to a marvelous 2013!

    • Are you sure? I got mine a little later than others. Just in case you don’t get it, I can tell you YOUR BLOG ROCKS! (But looking at the stats was interesting, although a little discouraging.)
      Blah!

  2. I like your blog JUST THE WAY IT IS! I looked at my stats report, but the numbers confused me, so I said, “That’s nice.” and went about my business. Numbers – Ugh. Words and pictures are WAY more fun.

  3. I didn’t really “get” that stats message that WordPress sent to us. I am making a New Year’s resolution to ignore stats, and just post and visit blogs because I enjoy it. 🙂

Happy New Year to you and your family!

  4. Your stats are good, Gemma. Must say I don’t understand why some get quite few views, and some get incredibly many. Some of the blogs with really high numbers sometimes actually have very few likes and comments, and that seems strange with thousands of dayly views, or? Better not care too much, but to enjoy blogging, and other’s blogs! 🙂

  5. I haven’t a clue how to do pingbacks anyway. 🙂 I love your blog, Gemma. I’m always quite surprised how few daily views I get, compared to the comments I get. I think the stats are bit skewed. Happy New Year to you. Hugs xx

  6. Gemma,
Don’t get upset about this. You’re about a year into blogging and it takes some time to build on your posts and connections. As per the pingbacks, remember I shared in my post how they don’t bring that much and when we do it, it is to connect with others and show appreciation? You did well, and for 2013, build on your body of work with content driven posts on topics that have a broad appeal.
Seriously, there is no BIG secret to blog success. It takes effort, original content, exposure, time, and a stick to it-ness even when the ride is rough…. and then there’s more to do. Ask me anything in the open… again, there are no secrets to it.
Above all, only you can decide what success looks like to you; don’t be swayed by speculation. Take the facts WP shared and focus on how you plan to work your blog in 2013. You Can Do It!
Glad to reconnect with you this year and many thanks for the blog support.

    • I appreciate your advice, Eliz. I made one resolution this year. To be more supportive of myself (less critical). I wrote this before I decided that. That resolution is a big deal for me. Isn’t it odd how some things take so long to come to fruition.
      Thanks you, Eliz. Heart*Star*Heart lol
How the heck do you do that?

  7. I’m glad that you are ok with it now ! Blogging is a funny business I’ve only been at it 6mths and learn something new each day . People have different aims and reasons for blogging and somethings work and some stuff is ignored or just doesn’t grab the interest of others it’s all a mystery to me . The main bit is to enjoy what you do with your blog and find people out there to connect with … which sounds trite but a very simple way of looking at it all.
You know the saying about statistics I’m sure 😉
    Go Gemma 2013 I say 😉

    • Statistics bite? I’m not sure I know that saying, but I’m with you. It’s all about the enjoyment. Thanks, poppy. Go me! I like that! Yay!
      Go you too 😆
