I have to admit, I was a little befuddled when I saw the WordPress Challenge for this week. I am not a world traveler, nor have I studied any cultures to any great extent. I was made in Italy, but born here, so that would make me a part of the American culture. I was born in the 50’s and in time became a child of the 60’s – the hippie culture. I won’t go into details about what I did or who I ‘hung out with’. I’ll just say, I had the time of my life. My husband says that time in my life – a time well before we met – has made me who I am today and that it is still a big part of my life now. This was me back in the day – during The Age of Aquarius, yeah, yeah, yeah. (I’ve pieced these together so photographically, they are less than adequate, but you’re lucky they’re not Polaroids!)
Fast forward to Halloween, 2008. I’ve been through A LOT! Times have changed, dramatically. But still a part of the culture that shaped me still remains, in me, in my way of thinking, and in my heart. Happily, for me, some of the clothing and, dare I say paraphernalia, has made a comeback as well.
This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. Some people may be quick to judge, and that’s ok. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. But I will always be happy I lived through that cultural experience, and I will always fly my tie-dyed banner, wishing each and every one of you peace.
There’s more WordPress culture to be seen. Just click on the groovy icon below, man.
U r the Missiest hippie and I LOVE u to death great job 😁
Love you!
Great pictures! Once a hippie, always a hippie – in a good way. Every minute of our past makes a contribution to what we have become – hopefully in a good way….
Hopefully. Peace and love to another big part of my past and now. ❤
Excellent post! I too am a child of the fifties…My fave to wear were the mexican embroidered blouses and always a pair of clogs or Dr. Scholls… I have no pictures.. ):
I wish I had more pix. I loved the clogs as well, and bell bottom jeans, and I know the blouses you mean. YES!
Those were the days my friend…
Ahhhhh, yes. 😉 only those of us who lived it, know.
Love the bell bottoms, they’re groovy. I remember burning my bra and also trying to hitch-hike to Woodstock with a friend, but everything else is fogging…. haha, just kidding about the fog. Loved the 60’s !
I drove to California from Jersey in a VW camper. Barely made it! But man, it was a blast! Make love not war. Still a popular demand!
I have an American friend who lives in the next suburb who says she was a hippy when she was young in Michigan. And she still wears Indian clothes and incense and always uses a handkerchief, never tissues (Kleenex). I’m interested in you being conceived in Italy! Have you ever been back?
Only when I was two. And that was by boat! 😉 My family is from the northern part of Italy. Near Trieste. I still have family there (and Australia). Never been back or to Australia. Fear of flying is a big part of that. :-(. Thanks for stopping by, Trish.
Oh my, the Age of Aquarius! Guess what song I’m going to be singing while I’m out walking this morning? And you always had a lovely smiley face. It’s a pleasure to visit with you, Gem. 🙂
Haha! Not always smiling, but thanks, Jo. Hope it made the walk that much more pleasant.
It was sunny too! 🙂
Raining here. I know it’s necessary but I wish it would rain when I’m sleeping 😦
P. S. I’m still waiting for Jake. This is disconcerting.
Very odd! I’ve seen him comment on a blog recently (Ruth in Colorado) and I thought he would reappear after that? Take care 🙂
Was a stiff subject but you did very nicely
🙂
Thanks! Sometimes I’m not sure I’m on target, but, oh well. I’m having fun. 😉
What fun you must have had in those days… I do remember bell bottoms!!!
I probably paid $5 for those at what they called a head shop. They sold candle and incense, handbags and, well, other stuff. It was a hoot!
Look at YOU Gemma ! Groovy Fab With It .. in both eras 🙂
Sounds like you lived it to the full . Good on you .
Haha! It was a fun time. Thanks for the visit, poppy.
I had tickets to Woodstock. My friend and I drove as close as we could get. It was MOBBED and people were abandoning their cars everywhere and walking …… We wimped out (I don’t remember why. Perhaps we had her dad’s car?). So we turned around and missed it. 😦
So close? Closer than me. We went to see the movie in a VW camper and – ah – made out. Not so close. But still fun. 😉
Absolutely love it…:)
I had no doubt. 🙂
Those times have shaped you in to one hell of woman and human being…thank goodness for them
You are way kind. I hope things are coming along for you. Talk about one hell of a chick!
Ummm I think you mean ‘chook’
What’s a chock? Is that a joke or kiwi slang? ??????
Well I learned it in Aussie growing up…it’s slang for a chicken…an older one. They call them that here too.
Funny. Chook. I like that. Later, chook. 😉
Funny old chook is one they use all the time.
Funny indeed. If the shoe fits … 😉
really cool!
Thanks, Iñigo. 😀
Love the pictures of your past. There’s a twinkle and joy in your smile that reflects that simplicity and blessings of that time. When I look too at my old pics, I can’t help but say, “That was one great life.” It did made me who I am today.
Yes, IT. You understand completely. Those were fun times. Although I truly can’t complain today. 😉
What a lovely teenager you were, Gemma. Love the decorated jeans. I wish my parents had allowed me to express myself in such a fun way. Peace to you too. 🙂
Thank you, Sylvia. I don’t think my mom cared for the rebel in me. I left home very early and things might have been very different, had I stayed. It all worked out though – for you and me. 😉
This is a great post! i loved every image! z
Those were certainly the days, but so are these. 😀
Thanks, Lisa.
The age of Aquarius was a good one. Peace! And Love! 🙂
That it was. Peace, Bente.
Excellent photography Gemma 🙂
Thank you, Jake.
