CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE – HOUSES

Back again for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge.  Another excellent adventure. 🙂

house 8

I got in my car yesterday and took a few shots of my neighborhood.  I live between the bay and the ocean and the houses reflect that “beachy” quality.  There are so many more that are worth taking a look at, and maybe someone will hold another “Houses” challenge.  Then I’ll get back in my car and scope out more of the neighborhood.  Til then…

GGG-CHALLEGE by FRIZZTEXT

GGG is for gggiraffe, and gggorilla, and ggglobe and, well, GGGold!

The Golden Nugget Casino - Atlantic City, NJ

The Golden Nugget Casino – Atlantic City, NJ

Jeff and I have been to the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City for dinner, for a little bit of decadent gambling (just a little), and recently for a concert.  While waiting to enter the venue assigned to Foreigner (yes, I’m that old), I noticed something sparkling inside a glass display.  Now if this doesn’t qualify for GGG, I don’t know what does! Whoa!  Talk about hitting the lottery!!!

In the event that you’re reading this on a tiny hand-held golden piece of technology, the inscription says:

The Hand Of Faith Nugget

Found October, 1980 near Wedderburn, Australia

This magnificent gold nugget, the largest on public display in the world, was discovered using a metal detector.  Lying six inches below the surface in a vertical position, it weighs a massive 875 troy ounces (61 pounds, ll ounces av.)

A Man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, his wife, and four young children were prospecting behind their modest trailer home when they made this spectacular find.

Lucky day, huh?   GGGargantuan, to say the least!

Not to be outdone, and right across the road from the Golden Nugget, stands The Borgata Casino and Water Club.  When driving by, and when the sun is just right, this bit of architecture looks like a twinkling pile of prospector’s golden delight, looming out of the earth.

Now don’t be fooled by all the GGGold.  This lady hasn’t seen one single ounce of it!  But the night is young. 🙂

SHARE YOUR WORLD – 2013 WEEK 27

107

Another installment of Cee’s Share Your World Challenge.  This is the part where you get to know more about me, and if you mosey on over to Cee’s, you’ll get to know about some other bloggers as well.  I’m not one for putting myself out there, but this is just plain ol’ fun.   So without further hesitation…

Describe yourself in a word or words that starts with the first letter of your name.

Gabby.  I’m a real talker!

Generous.  Maybe not to a fault but I’m…

Good-Hearted, so I think the two can go hand in hand.

Do you prefer reading coffee table books (picture), biographies, fiction, non-fiction, educational?

Fiction.  Hands down my favorite, but I’ve been know to educate myself sometimes. 🙂  My preference is murder/mystery/detective/cop type books, mostly. Yeah.  Definitely fiction.

beach book

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?

That, sadly, might be a 50/50 thing.  I don’t apply myself as much as I should.  If I did, I’d say not too many.  (It’s a long story.)

If you had only one book you could write what would it be about?  Assume it is a top 10 seller of any genre.

About a young girl, living, working, surviving a poor town.  Trying to pull herself up by her bootstraps and making the best of what she’s been given.  There’d of course be love, drama, heartache, tears, joy – and maybe a detective thrown in. 🙂

If not that, then a murder/mystery/detective/cop type book. 🙂

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – ONE SHOT, TWO WAYS

One shot, two ways. Love it! This is an opportunity to see a crazy number of photos and to learn from the experience of other bloggers (I won’t say other photographers because I haven’t earned the right to be included in that category.) ,  Professional or novice, there’s plenty to be said for both.
Welcome to my home – or at least two sides of it.

THURSDAY LINGERING LOOK AT WINDOWS – WEEK 30

Revel panorama

There’s a new casino in town.  Well, maybe not new.  But as the AT&T guy says in the commercial: new-ER.  This week, I thought I’d concentrate on  one place for Dawn’s Lingering Look at Windows.  Just because there are so many of them.  And don’t ask.  NO!  I don’t do windows.  But you might want to DO AC.  It’s an interesting place to visit.  Bring a camera!

F IS FOR FFFLAG!

ffflag panorama

Having been a teacher, I don’t know why it took me so long to join in the FrizzText A-Z Photo Challenge.  Of course I didn’t graduate college and become a teacher til I was 51.  Now if that doesn’t make me a procrastinator!  So, as is my M.O., I’m late and coming in on the F’s and I’m not sure I’ll make it to all the challenges (also my M.O), but here’s my FFF’s – and I know I’m being obvious, but I’m coming in with FLAG!

ffflag 5

This beautiful property down the road a piece from our shore house is flanked with miniature flags.  Then, last night, we were taken by surprise when we went into town back home, and they were holding a National Nite Out in Collingswood.  The flag was not so miniature there.  Appropo though.  No?

CEE’S WHICH WAY CHALLENGE – WEEK 5

A sunny day

A bike ride

Stopping for a cup o’ joe.

A book

A bench

Taking time for myself.

What a wonderful morning!

Here’s some of what I saw along the way yesterday, that fits perfectly with Cee’s Which Way Challenge.  Enjoy the ride. 🙂

One of my favorite little homes along the way.

I hope you enjoyed a little bit of my morning.  I did a rerun this today, but the clouds were threatening.  I still had to sit, just a bit.  Drink my coffee and read for as long as the weather allowed.  A little bit of drizzle chased me home, but all in all, another wonderful beginning to the day.

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO CHALLENGE – TEXTURES

Next stop, Sonel’s Corner and a new challenge – for me.  Black and White photos.   I think B&W is tricky.  Some things work with it and some don’t.  I’m going to take a shot at it and see where it leads me.  Worst that could happen, people will not agree with my choices.  Best that could happen, I might learn something.  (And THAT’S a good thing!).

I hope Sonel doesn’t mind me joining in.  She seems really nice, so I’m thinking she will welcome me with open arms.  OK maybe not open arms, but I don’t think she’ll shut the proverbial door in my face.

Please feel free to comment and help  (be kind!)

SHARE YOUR WORLD – 2013 WEEK 26

The title of this post is a little deceiving.  Share Your World is a challenge that is hosted by Cee @ ceephotography.com.  She has actually hosted 26 of these.  What’s deceiving is that I have only shared once.  This being my second attempt to share, I guess I should have used the title Share Your World – 2013 Week 26 – But Only Week 2 For Me.  But, I won’t.

Here goes Share numero 2:

Are you left or right handed?

Unlike one of my ex-students…

Ambidextrous !

Ambidextrous !

I am right handed and pretty much useless with my left.

Before making a phone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say?

I hate Hate HATE making phone calls. That coupled with too many insecurities to mention, I practice Practice PRACTICE before making a call.  (P.S. This doesn’t always work out for the best.)

Crunchy Peanut Butter or Smooth Peanut butter?   Anything with your peanut butter?

Smooth and I just like to eat it with a spoon!  Is that wrong? 🙂

How many rings before you answer the phone?

I don’t answer the phone.  It goes to the recorder and I call back – if I have to.  Cell phone?  Different story.  You can see who’s calling and make a judgement call.

There.  Now you know just a little more about me.  YAY! Right?
