About the author

Welcome.  Let’s see.  Where do I start?

I am a retired school teacher.    I’ve tried my hand at a number of things: writing, drawing, beading, and  the playing of a plethora of instruments.  Can’t say that I’ve really master any of these, but I keep trying to find my niche. Give a girl credit…

I am married to a super guy .

He loves motorcycles.

And I have a handsome son.

He loves his girlfriend. 🙂

We have two dogs, Rocky and Marshall.

They love their bones – and each other.

And don’t forget our cat, Phoenix.

Like most cats, she’s indifferent.

Now I’m working on a new niche.  Blogging and photography.  I’m new at both, so be patient, please  (and kind).  Throw in a little writing and I’m off on my next excellent adventure.

Thank you for visiting, “liking”,  and commenting.  And, as a very dear friend often said  to me, be seeing you…

  1. Just thought I’d answer you here too about the Nikon D40. It’s a wonderful starter camera. Most lenses work well with it. Some you may have to manually focus. I’m a Nikon user (I have a D80) so if you would like any tips or help, please feel free to write.

  2. thank you so much for dropping by my blog and leaving such kind words, gemma. and for following too – will do the same with you! 🙂 (ps. doubly-glad to discover that we have the teaching profession in common too :D). warm hugs xox

  3. Hi Gemma, Thanks for nominating Gerry for the Liebster award…..I got a nomination as a result !! 😉

I love your photographs. I am getting a ‘proper’ camera in a couple of weeks and I can’t wait!! The Photo challenges are great. Haven’t participated of late down to being sick, but once I get that camera I’ll be off around the local areas to shoot some pics.

That reminds me…I better start my digital photography course very soon 🙂

It’s lovely to meet you and I think your Blog is great! Immie 😀

    • Good luck with the new camera. I am so new at this but it is so much fun. Digital photo course? On line? Your course? Something local to you? I should really do that too. Something to look into. I hope you’re feeling better. Nice to have met you too and thank you for the compliments and for stopping by. Be seeing you… Gem 🙂

  4. Turns out we have more in common than just Trieste… 🙂 I’m also a teacher, 11 years of experience. But I teach upper grades–5th grade, and 8th grade science. Next year I move to 6th SS/Sci. 🙂

  5. Thank you for being a part of my Father’s Day celebration. Happy Father’s Day to your husband and the fathers in your family. You have a beautiful heart that has so much to give. Thank you.

  7. Thank you for your comment on my post…I came to see what you are all “about” and I love it. 🙂 I was also a teacher (kindergarten) and I’m all about building self-esteem and developing literacy skills using the messages in picture books and positive parental participation. So happy to connect with you!

  12. I have so much enjoyed reading your posts and have learnt a lot about blogging from you as well. I wanted to thank you and nominate you for the REALITY award, as I am sure others have also found you:
    – Real
    – Energising
    – Amazing
    – Inspiring
    – Touching
    and, well – Yippee!

I have looked at your award page and you don’t have a REALITY award, so I hope you would like to accept this nomination! If so, please visit the nomination page for five fun questions: http://madoqua.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/reality-award/

    • Thank you, Madoqua. I noticed this was dated November. I just received it! ( unless that date means something else. .??????
But still. Thank you very much.

  13. I like your “before” and “after”! I have realized that you are very young retired school teacher! My best regards, Wanda from Poland.

  14. No matter what people tell you photography doesn’t happen overnight. Be patient and ask lots of questions. Thanks for blogging. – Bob

  16. I appreciate your dropping by my f-stop fantasy blog on a fairly regular basis. I’m sure it would be more regular if I were more regular. Been kind of lazy of late. Hopefully, I can rectify that. I’ve been more active photographically lately; now I just need to continue being more active bloggingly. Have a great day and thanks for likingly.

  17. What a wonderfully cozy place on the internet you have! It seems to me that you write about the most everyday things…. But those are (in my opinion) the most over looked and yet the most precious things in life to focus on.

    🙂

    • Oh, Roberta. Nice to be missed. I too am missing something. My blogging! Mom ill. Having to move her in with us. It’s kind of put my world in a spin. You can’t control the event, only how you deal with them, right? I’m hoping to be back around soon. Thanks for noticing my absence. Warms my heart, really, at a time when heart-warming is required. 🙂

    • Thank you Daniel. And come back anytime. I had an old friend who used to sign off by saying “be seeing you” when he wrote letters to me. Way back when people wrote letters. That made me smile. 🙂

  18. Gemma do you have any interest in participating in a B&W challenge?
I am in search of a few people to invite. It requires 5 B&W photos over 5 days…and the task of inviting a different person each day.

    • Thanks for the offer Aletta but I turned Helen down because I am just overwhelmed (with family stuff) right now. I do appreciate the offer and I’m sorry, but I’ll have to pass this time. Hopefully things here will slow down/improve and I’ll be able to even blog like I use to. Thanks, again.

  19. OK….I have followed you for awhile and enjoy chatting back and forth with you…however, every time I start to reply to a comment you have made I realize I do not know your name!!
So I’m reading through your “About” page and trying to gather clues….Gemma is the name I seem to have come up with….is this the name you answer to? 🙂

  20. I spotted your profile over at Tree’s blog and had to come and check you out. You have some great photos. Looking forward to getting to know you better. I am just finishing up the A-Z Challenge xx Rowena

    • Thanks for the visit, Rowena. And the kindness. I’ve been backing off a little on my blogging. It gets to take up way too much of the day, but I hope to stick around. Be seeing you … 😊
