SUNDAY POST – A PLACE TO RELAX

Apparently several family members have different ideas about how and where to relax.
Phoenix, our feline, prefers my jacket and the couch.

Rocky, our shepherd, thinks my yoga mat is the way to go.

Jeff swears we will retire to South Carolina and Fripp Island is the place that convinced him of this.  Soooooo relaxing.

And, after a week’s stay in the hospital with double pneumonia, the flu, and congestive heart failure, my mom has found her niche in our home.  This is her new place to relax. Thankfully, she is doing a little better every day. This is momma in her sanctuary.

Now I need a place for me to relax!

SUNDAY POST – FLOWERS

“Earth laughs in flowers”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you don’t keep flowers in your house, you might want to think about it.  I’ve always had plants, but lately I’ve been keeping flowers in our bedroom.  They are the first thing I see when I get up, and if Earth laughs in flowers, well, flowers make me smile – every morning.

Stop off and smell the roses at Jake’s blog by clicking on the icon below.  And smile. 🙂

JAKE’S SUNDAY POST – 2014 – REALITY

You may THINK it’s cold.  And it may very well BE cold.  But it took me a long time to learn that My Perception is My REALITY.

Mind over matter, my friends.

To quote the unconventional Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn: “Remember. Your focus determines your reality.”

Rocky is focused! And the snow means nothing to him.  His reality is no toy is too big to play with and no amount of snow is going to stop him.

It’s all in your head. 🙂

SUNDAY POST – ATTRACTION

While strolling through the park one day…

My hub and I were strolling around Smithville in NJ when we heard a little bit of a ruckus coming from the lake that runs through the village.  We ran over to the bridge (as best as I can run) and there we spotted two geese having, what seemed to be to me, a disagreement.

two male geese (I'm guessing)

Now, for me, the attraction would be the blue ball on the rocks.  I mean, here’s a chance to play with your friends and you’re blowing it to get into a riotous brawl.  Over what?!?  Yup.  You guessed it.  A WOMAN!!

The Attraction!

The Attraction!

Hanging in the back, taking this all in, floated the Big Attraction.  She obviously was the object of both their desires and these guys were going to fight it out.    I’ll admit, she’s pretty cute, but to get all in a huff, feathers getting ruffled, necks being bitten.  Come on, guys.

To the bitter end!

To the bitter end!

But fight they did.  This went on for a little while, with me clicking away, not even once thinking about  taking a video!  Now who’s the dope!  Well, me, of course.   But alas, to the victor goes the spoils.  The fight was over and the loser (to the rear) left the scene, with his head hung low and his spirits even lower.  The winner of the Big Attraction, if you want to call him that, starts after his Lady Fair.

The lovely couple - or not!

The lovely couple – or not!

Now the best shot of all, I MISSED!  Because this girl was having none of it.  Before I could prepare myself for it, she turned and dashed under a nearby building that was set up on pilings in the lake.  In a flash, she was gone.  The male goose sat floating in the water near the corner of the building where Lady Fair had disappeared.  If a goose could have a look of shock :-O this guy would have.

I’m guessing the Big Attraction to Lady Fair was that she WAS the Big Attraction, and that was enough for her.  Hey, ladies.  Ever been there?

This post is in response to Jake’s challenge @ jakesprinters.wordpress.com.  Welcome back, Jake!  You’ve been missed. 🙂  To see more Attractions, click on the icon below.

SUNDAY POST – BAY

I knew when I read the word “bay” that I was going to really find this challenge to be a true challenge.  These shots are all captured in Brigantine, NJ and are apparently the only “bay” shots I have.  Still, I hope you enjoy, and I hope I have done Jake’s challenge, @ jakesprinters,  some justice.

SUNDAY POST – ARRANGEMENT

There’s a coffee shop the next town over that hangs a sign over its door reading EspressIt. GetIt?

They have the biggest, most beautiful muffins I have ever laid my eyes on and coffee mugs the size of sombreros!  After one of these mugs, you could probably make it to South of the Border and back at an energetic, Speedy Gonzalez pace.

On this day, before leaving the cafe, I made a quick ‘pit stop’ to wash off the stickiness of  my fabulous chocolate-avocado muffin.  As soon as I set foot in the, ah, well you know, I had to break out the iPhone. The walls just screamed “take my picture” ‘Arrangement’ was literally all around me.  Tiles were meticulously placed on one wall to create a steaming hot cup of coffee. Opposite the cup, the artist arranged the name of the establishment in colorful, carefully placed glass.

Now this takes some planning.

My thanks to Jake for hosting this week’s challenge.  I’d lift my mug to you – if I could! LOL

SUNDAY POST – NEW YEAR 2013

Passing through the convenience store parking lot, I spotted these birds huddled together. Usually I see scads of them lined up on phone or electrical wires. I’m sure you have, too. I wonder why they all hang together on the same strand with maybe one rebel that sits off on his own. But for the most part, they stick together. This was a little different. I don’t know if I ever saw this many perusing a parking lot from the same bushy perch.

2013 – a year of usual, a year of being more observant, a year of huddling with friends and family and making the best of life. 2013 – a year of being less rebellious, less arbitrary, and more in tune, more present.

SUNDAY POST – CHRISTMAS

I know I’m probably one of the last people to “make their own Christmas postcard”, but this was a first for me and I kinda like it.  Jake, at jakesprinters, challenged us with a Christmas post which gives me the chance to showcase my card, and my pup.  So without further ado…

Rocketman

Merry Christmas, Buon Natale, Feliz Navidad, God Jul, Sung Tan Chuk Ha, Joyeux Noel, Froehliche Weihnachten, Merry Keshmish, Mele Kalikimaka, Errymay Ristmaskay 🙂

Stop off at Jakes site for more Merriment and have a super holiday!
