WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – HUMANITY

Merriam-Webster’s definition of HUMANITY

: the quality or state of being human
: the quality or state of being kind to other people or to animals
: all people

A melting pot of visitors converge every day to see one of New Jersey’s most famous boardwalks. Hotels, casinos, shops, food, food, and more food attracts lots of folks to the Atlantic shore of the 3rd state  – December 18, 1787 – the 47th in size.  New Jersey, noted for it’s farming (blueberries to name just one glorious fruit!) and it’s pharmaceutical industry, is also famous for its beaches and, as seen here, the boardwalk of Atlantic City.

Merriam-Webster has it’s definition of humanity.

LIFE GUARD STAND IN A.C., N.J.

And Buddha had a few words to say himself.

“Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.” ~ Buddha

Buddha. Ya gotta love the man. He keeps it simple.

GGG-CHALLEGE by FRIZZTEXT

GGG is for gggiraffe, and gggorilla, and ggglobe and, well, GGGold!

The Golden Nugget Casino - Atlantic City, NJ

The Golden Nugget Casino – Atlantic City, NJ

Jeff and I have been to the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City for dinner, for a little bit of decadent gambling (just a little), and recently for a concert.  While waiting to enter the venue assigned to Foreigner (yes, I’m that old), I noticed something sparkling inside a glass display.  Now if this doesn’t qualify for GGG, I don’t know what does! Whoa!  Talk about hitting the lottery!!!

gold 2

In the event that you’re reading this on a tiny hand-held golden piece of technology, the inscription says:

The Hand Of Faith Nugget

Found October, 1980 near Wedderburn, Australia

This magnificent gold nugget, the largest on public display in the world, was discovered using a metal detector.  Lying six inches below the surface in a vertical position, it weighs a massive 875 troy ounces (61 pounds, ll ounces av.)

A Man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, his wife, and four young children were prospecting behind their modest trailer home when they made this spectacular find.

Lucky day, huh?   GGGargantuan, to say the least!

Not to be outdone, and right across the road from the Golden Nugget, stands The Borgata Casino and Water Club.  When driving by, and when the sun is just right, this bit of architecture looks like a twinkling pile of prospector’s golden delight, looming out of the earth.

Now don’t be fooled by all the GGGold.  This lady hasn’t seen one single ounce of it!  But the night is young. 🙂

THURSDAY LINGERING LOOK AT WINDOWS – WEEK 27

This woman is not a world traveler – or much of a traveler at that.  (not ’cause I don’t want to. Just cause it’s not in the cards at present) So pix of windows are a tough row to hoe for me.  But having a place at the Jersey Shore lends itself to a few more choices than when we’re at home.  I do, I believe, owe an apology to my dear blog-buddy, Dawn.  She’s the host of this (true) challenge, and I’ve tried to keep up, but it’s just not happening. That said…

Dear Dawn,

Sorry I missed a few “Window Weeks”.  I have been enjoying the view from the windows you and others have posted, but alas, I’ve been amiss. (is that a word?) But, now,  I am back – YAY! Right?  Whatever, girlfriend.  Here is my entry.

If you haven’t been to the Jersey Shore, do try to put it on your to-do list.  As they say in Atlantic City, DO AC.  There’s also OC, and Brigantine, and Wildwood, and Stone Harbor, and Cape May.  There are zoos and beaches and casinos and rides and so, so many restaurants.  I’m sure you heard, We’re Stronger Than The Storm, and things have been improving tremendously after the Hurricane Sandy devastation, so do DO NJ.  (and no, this is not a public service announcement from our illustrious governor.) 🙂

Visit Dawn’s blog @ lingeringvisions.wordpress.com .  She’s not hawking Jersey.  She’s just got some cool pix to share.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – THE WORLD THROUGH YOUR EYES

Jeff and I have a home right outside Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Much of what makes up the City doesn’t enter into my world.  But sometimes, every so often, I find this down-the-road-and-to-the-left part of my world fascinating.

We spent the afternoon gazing in utter amazement at the world of sand sculpting.  This competition/exhibition was available to tons of curious tourists and locals for FREE!  Now, how often do you see something this cool for free?

FREE!!!

FREE!!!

Artists from around the world gathered to sculpt for spectators, and, of course, the competition was fierce.  See if you don’t agree.

Some of the sculptors at work.  Simply incredible!

Of course,  I had to get a shot of Jeff in because he’s the biggest part of my world.

CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE – WHICH WAY – STAIRS AND STEPS

We’ve been challenged with stairs and steps this week and Cee @ ceephotography.com has definitely stepped it up with this theme.  I’m way behind with posting and picturing, so I’ll just get on with it.  Sit back and relax.   No climbing necessary.

The last shot was some of what Hurricane Sandy destroyed.  Sadly, there is still a lot of work to be done.   When the stairs are replaced, I’ll be sure to get a shot of them.  Meanwhile, click on the icon below to visit Cee’s blog and check out more interesting stair/step photos.

CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE – RAINBOW COLORS

Right off the bat I am apologizing for the quality of this photo.  But there’s a reason, and it’s not lack of talent – not this time, anyway.

I spotted this colorful pony in a shop in Atlantic City.  He (She?) is so me.  For as long as I can remember I have loved horses and, being a child of the 60’s, I spent my teen years flashing peace signs at everyone and anyone.

So when I saw this horse splashed with rainbow colors and a pretty pink peace sign, I had to have a picture of it.  Problem was I was approached by a sales person, asking me not to take pix of anything in the store.

I had to do a skulky, stealthy, sneaky move, which accounts for the poor picture quality. 😦   Sorry, I know sneaky is wrong, but sometimes you just have to be a non-conformist and break the rules.

PEACE

Please make your way over to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge and take a look at more rainbow colors.  You won’t be sorry.  No Horsin’ around!

Cee, thanks for hosting and to all, thanks for visiting… 🙂

TRAVEL THEME – UP

Overlooking the Marina in Atlantic City, boasting a magnificent view of the city, is the Chart House Restaurant.  I haven’t had the pleasure of dining there, so I don’t have a photo of the exquisite view they’re bragging about, but I did travel the glass-enclosed walkway right up to their front entrance and enjoyed a different view.  If you look UP, here’s what you see.
