“For me, songwriting is something I have to do ritually. I don’t just wait for inspiration; I try to write a little bit every day.” ~ Sean Lennon
This reminds me of a friend of mine. She’s a children’s author. A writer. She writes every day. Whether there are ideas or no ideas, she writes. She doesn’t wait for inspiration.
Sometimes you just have to go for it. The ideas will come.

ART TAKES MANY FORMS. MUSIC BEING ONE OF THEM.
Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall in love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin – find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less.

Not too long ago, Jeff and I made our wish-list-visit to the local cycle shop. This was hanging in the back of the place. It says it all.

Ok. You’re about to officially get sick of the May Fair, but THEY HAD EVERYTHING! Vintage autos, fruits and veggies, jewelry, food, pottery, kiddie rides, ponies, food, clothing, did I say food?
And of course, music. According to my iPad dictionary: an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of RHYTHM, melody, harmony, and color.
RHYTHM. Melody. Harmony. COLOR!
Dang! I love music!
I didn’t get their names or the name of their band, but I do remember they played one of my favorite songs, and I sang and rocked to the rhythm…
