WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – THE WORLD THROUGH YOUR EYES

Jeff and I have a home right outside Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Much of what makes up the City doesn’t enter into my world.  But sometimes, every so often, I find this down-the-road-and-to-the-left part of my world fascinating.

We spent the afternoon gazing in utter amazement at the world of sand sculpting.  This competition/exhibition was available to tons of curious tourists and locals for FREE!  Now, how often do you see something this cool for free?

FREE!!!

FREE!!!

Artists from around the world gathered to sculpt for spectators, and, of course, the competition was fierce.  See if you don’t agree.

Some of the sculptors at work.  Simply incredible!

Of course,  I had to get a shot of Jeff in because he’s the biggest part of my world.

  1. Wow! How lucky you were to be there! I wish I could have seen those sculptors at work. I particularly like the baby/old man (Unwind?).

  2. I love Rooms for Rent, and the Car for the guy in heaven. Awesome. Besides that, there’s a lot of freakiness and scary stuff. I also like Jeff being hilarious, covering the bits and pieces of the naked lady! OMG.

  3. The sculptures are INCREDIBLE! A tidal wave of creativity. Love ’em all, although Weightless gets a special accolade from me.
And of course your Jeff, doing his bit for “decorum.”

    • Yes, Weightless was stunning, but I liked “The Last Apple” best. I think it was the flowing hair. I always wished I had hair like that. 😉 And Jeff? He’s the best! ❤❤❤

  4. Fierce indeed!

I can’t sculpt anything but I love it. I hear that for these events, competitors are permitted a type of temporary cement but I’ve never found out what it is. Do you know?

    • They told us it was sand from Tuckahoe, NJ. The particular person I spoke to said they also used a mixture of Elmer’s glue to spray on the scutpture when it’s done. Maybe some use a special cement, but that’s not what she told us. To each his own, I guess. I’ll stick to play doh. 😉

  5. Hi Gemma ! What a great share this is . How can people get such facial expressions out of ..SAND.. of all things . I trust there were not too many crestfallen faces when a bit dropped off and had to be restarted .. we all know what it’s like when even the most simple upturned sand castle bucket doesn’t come out perfectly Lol
..sorry to be late here I seem along with others on mine to be missing some posts by blog friends ..

Feel free to express your (kind) thoughts.
